I-40 eastbound near US 70 in Garner reopens after accident

GARNER (WTVD) -- An accident forced the closure of all eastbound lanes of I-40 near US 70 in Garner on Wednesday afternoon.

The highway reopened about 5 p.m. The shoulder remains closed.

Traffic is slowly returning to normal.

The incident happened near Exit 306.

Motorists who wish to avoid the area are advised to take Exit 306 for US 70 Business East and follow it to NC 42 West (S Lombard Street) to re-access I-40 East.
