Wilson man tells police he shot person kicking in his door

WILSON, NC (WTVD) -- The Wilson Police Department says a homeowner shot and killed a man who he said was trying to kick his door in.

It happened about 1:15 a.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Winoca Rd.

Police said the 71-year-old homeowner, Paul Morgan, told them he warned the man to stop kicking in his door and when he didn't, he fired through the door.

The burglary suspect was rushed to Wilson Medical Center for treatment after officers arrived, but he died of his injuries.

Police have not identified the dead man. He has not been positively identified, police said, and ID will be pending notification of next of kin.
