RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- It's no secret that North Carolina is one of several key battleground states. That's not lost on the presidential candidates, who along with their surrogates have been constant presences in the state for months leading up to the 2024 general election.

Democrats think they can flip North Carolina for the first time since 2008. Republicans are out to deliver the state for Trump yet again.

Team Trump on Tour stops in Hendersonville Monday

Team Trump on Tour is coming to Hendersonville on Monday, according to the Trump-Vance campaign.

At the event, former US representative Tulsi Gabbard, former racecar driver Danica Patrick, former ESPN anchor Sage Steele, and former professional football player Setema Gali will deliver remarks.

It starts at 1 p.m. at Pilot Mountain Pears on Circle L Farms Drive.

With Election Day two days away, Trump's running mate JD Vance is in NC today for a campaign rally. It is at Raleigh Executive Jetport in Sanford.

According to the campaign, he delivered remarks around 12:30 p.m.

Donald Trump Jr. also spoke at the rally.

Emhoff, Vance, Walz all in NC this week

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will be in Greenville Monday for a campaign event, according to the Harris-Walz campaign. Currently, no details about the time or specific location have been released.

Today, Trump's running mate JD Vance will hold a rally at the Raleigh Executive Jetport in Sanford. Meanwhile, Harris' running mate Tim Walz will be in Gastonia.

NC breaks early voting record; nearly 4.5 million have cast their ballots

Nearly 4.5 million people in the Tar Heel state voted early. That's 57% of the state's 7.8 million registered voters.

The exact number is 4,465,548. This beats North Carolina's previous record for early voting, set in 2020 when 3.6 million people cast their vote early.

Voters in 25 western NC counties affected by Hurricane Helene outpaced the rest of the state in voter turnout. According to the state board of elections, turnout in those counties was nearly 59%, about 2% higher than the statewide turnout.

Although early voting ended in North Carolina, it is still ongoing in some states.

Nationwide numbers

As of Sunday at 6 a.m.,over 75 million Americans have cast their ballots, including in-person early votes and mail ballots returned.

So far, nationwide, the number of in-person early votes has exceeded the total from 2020. However, the overall number of early votes, including mail-in and absentee ballots, is lower than it was in 2020.
