
What to know about the US aircraft struck over Iran
A U.S. fighter jet appears to have been shot down by Iran over Iranian territory on Friday, American officials confirmed to ABC News.
One crew member aboard the downed two-seater F-15E has been rescued, according to two U.S. officials. The status of the other crew member is unknown, according to one of the officials, and the search and rescue effort continues.
Two Blackhawk helicopters involved in the search and rescue mission for the crew were also struck by incoming fire, a U.S. official said. There were injuries to some of the crew aboard the helicopters, which both were able to make it back to their base, the official said.
Also on Friday, a U.S. Air Force one-seater A-10 Warthog attack aircraft was hit by incoming fire over Iran and crashed in Kuwait, according to a U.S. official. The pilot aboard was safely rescued, according to a U.S. official. Their condition was unclear.
