Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski undergoes total knee replacement
DURHAM (WTVD) -- Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski underwent a successful total knee replacement surgery Sunday morning, the team announced.
The surgery was performed at Duke University Medical Center by Dr. Michael Bolognesi, a joint replacement orthopedic surgeon.
"The technical aspects of the case went as we had hoped, and Coach Krzyzewski is doing well," Dr. Bolognesi said in the statement. "We will try to get him up walking today, as we will let him put as much weight as he tolerates on the implant right away."
Krzyzewski could be released from the hospital within three days. He'll then begin a rehabilitation program at Duke, according to team officials.
The surgery was scheduled not long after Duke's season ended in the Sweet 16 with a loss to Oregon on March 24.
Krzyzewski will lead USA Basketball in Rio de Janeiro at the Summer Olympics.
