Man hit and killed by train in Durham

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Authorities are investigating after a man was hit by an Amtrak train and killed near North LaSalle Street in Durham early Friday afternoon.

The area is between Highway 147 and the 3500 block of Hillsborough Road.

The westbound Amtrak train was carrying 96 passengers. No one aboard the train was injured. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the man as 54-year-old Paul Klemmer. Police were trying to determine why he was on the tracks.
