Dozens search for missing man
The search is on for a missing Sampson County man

GARLAND, N.C. (WTVD) -- Dozens of people are desperately searching for a missing Sampson County man.

They're on foot and horseback trying to find 72-year-old William Earl Powell.

Powell, who is known to friends and loved ones as "Willie," was last seen at his house on Birdy Lane in Garland.

The search began on Tuesday afternoon when Sampson County emergency crews received a report of a missing person.

Powell was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, denim pants, and brown slip-on loafers. Authorities said Powell suffers from dementia and has a history of wandering away from his home.

Powell is 6'1", is approximately 180 lbs., and has green eyes.

Emergency crews from multiple surrounding counties are involved in the search. The area crews are combing over includes all of Garland and wooded areas south of Garland.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sampson County Sheriff's Office.
