ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 21-year-old pizza delivery driver was shot and killed in Roanoke Rapids, according to Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

"He was doing his job trying to make an honest living, and he was murdered," Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said.

The shooting happened sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning off Branch Avenue.

On Tuesday evening, deputies had identified two suspects in the killing, the sheriff's office said, but did not name them.

The shooting that hits close to home for Sheriff Tripp.

"For secondary employment, I also worked for this same pizza delivery company, to make ends meet. So I kind of had a sick feeling in my gut when I first heard of this," Tripp said.

Deputies said the Domino's Pizza manager called 911 around 1 a.m. to report finding the body of his delivery driver James Anthony Lee Jr. The manager went looking for Lee after he failed to check in for some time.

The investigation into who shot Lee and why continues.

Domino's is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

We are heartbroken to hear this news and our thoughts are with Mr. Lee's family and friends at this time. Our local franchisee and the store team are working closely with the authorities on this very active investigation. This location is closed today in light of this tragic loss.
