HENDERSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Police in Henderson are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and injured two others, including a child.

Officers responded just before midnight on Saturday to the area near Rose Street and South Williams Street after receiving reports of a gunshot victim.

When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency crews, the teen later died at the hospital.

Investigators said a 25-year-old man and a small child also arrived at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries connected to the same incident.

Investigators say the 25-year-old had traveled to the area to meet with the teen. During that encounter, an exchange of gunfire occurred, leading to the injuries and damage to the man's vehicle.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Henderson Police Department at 252-438-4141 or Henderson-Vance Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925.
