Woman who spends 3 hours with kids on weekends triggers internet debate

NEW YORK -- There is a heated conversation right now about parenting.

It was sparked by entrepreneur Emma Grede, who revealed she spends about three hours with her kids on weekends by choice.

She's the founding partner of Skims and Good American.

The reaction to her comments have been swift, and in many cases, critical.

But it is also opening a bigger conversation about modern parenting, and the pressure, especially on moms, to be constantly present and perfectly balanced.

So what should families actually take away from this moment?

ABC parenting expert Bethany Braun-Silva said it can be about rethinking how to balance your time and make the most of it.

Parents are expected to do it all, be present, succeed, manage everything, but the pressure isn't sustainable.

Grede said that it's not the kind of parent she is and she won't be cutting her kids' sandwiches into fun shapes, for example.

She said that she's a high-impact, core memory mom.

It's a real look at what works for you without burning out. That amount of time can be much more or even less for parents.

While some feel it may be a luxury to get time away from their kids, our anchors felt time with their children is the real luxury.

It's about identifying what works for your family when everyone feels good and then being able to replicate that into a schedule that works.
