6 puppies saved by firefighters from suspected fentanyl overdose in Washington

GOLD BAR, Wa. -- Six puppies in Washington state were rescued by first responders from a potentially deadly situation.

It happened on Sunday, when people started banging on the door of Station 54 in Gold Bar to help three puppies that were unresponsive.

Officials say the puppies were in critical condition and in respiratory distress due to a possible fentanyl overdose.

Firefighters performed CPR, gave oxygen, and administered Narcan nasal spray.

"Also knowing that Fentanyl is one of the major causes of poisoning, when introduced in the air as a powder, it was our firefighters best guess that the puppies had experienced a fentanyl OD," Sky Valley Fire said in a post on their Facebook page.

Police tracked down the people who dropped off the puppies and discovered three more sick dogs at their home.

All six puppies are now recovering at the Everett Animal Shelter, where firefighters stopped by to pay them a visit on Monday.

The shelter says it is focused on the health of the dogs first and will let the public know when they will be available for adoption.
