ABC tables, for now, proposal that could raise price of alcohol in NC
A minimum price policy would impose a mandated cost for liquors such as vodka, whiskey, gin, and other spirits.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A high-stakes discussion that happened Wednesday could affect the cost of alcohol across the state.

The ABC Commission met as it considers a controversial plan to implement a minimum price policy, which would impose a mandated cost for liquors such as vodka, whiskey, gin, and other spirits.

Those in favor say the increases could price out younger drinkers, leading to lower consumption.

But after hearing feedback from representatives for restaurants and bars, who said the plan would hurt their bottom line, the commission voted to table the plan while it conducts further studies on the proposal.
