Wake County chase ends in crash, foot pursuit, suspect in hospital

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A bank robbery suspect is in custody after a high-speed chase, a crash, and a foot chase.

At around 1:20 p.m., a deputy spotted a car that matched the description of bank robbery suspect Anthony T. Mingo.

Wake County deputies tried to stop Mingo on Spectrum Drive off of Hodge Road when a chase began. WCSO says the chase ended on Widewaters Parkway in Knightdale when he ran into a parked car.

Mingo then got out of the car and went into a nearby restaurant, where he was taken into custody.

He was then taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries that deputies say were self-inflicted.

Eyewitness News spoke with people who witnessed the incident.

"He started running toward me and he was running. I knew he was the guy they were looking for because he was running as if he was being chased and he had something in his hand and he ran in the kitchen," said Winifred Richardson.

"And so the people that ran in, like, they were terrified. They were like, we're running in here . They were like, they just came in. They're like, we're staying in the back. Like, you better lock your doors. And I was like, I got you guys," said Mary Lin.

Mingo was wanted in connection with a bank robbery that took place at PNC Bank on Falls of Neuse Road.

WCSO claims the suspect damaged several vehicles in the chase, and the restaurant was briefly evacuated by law enforcement.

One deputy was treated for an injury and is expected to be okay, the sheriff's office says.
