8 without homes after Chapel Hill duplex fire, no injuries

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- Eight people were left without a home Saturday morning following a duplex fire in Chapel Hill.

At 6:10 a.m., the Chapel Hill Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at a duplex on Old University Station Road at Weaver Dairy Road. Upon arrival, firefighters saw flames at the back of one of the two units in the building.

Authorities confirmed the fire was contained to one unit, while the other sustained smoke and water damage.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation

"I'm deeply appreciative of our fire rescue crews who responded quickly and stopped the fire from spreading to the neighboring unit," Fire Chief Jay Mebane said.
