Chatham County teacher arrested on child pornography allegations

SILER CITY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A teacher with Chatham County Schools is facing charges for allegedly being caught with child pornography.

Christopher James Rex, 40, was arrested Friday at an apartment complex in the 200 block of NC 54 in Carrboro after agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and officers with the Carrboro Police Department executed a search warrant.

According to court documents, Rex allegedly downloaded several illegal images of children online.

He is a teacher at ONE Academy in Siler City.

According to the district, Rex has been placed on mandatory leave without pay.

He was also held without bond at the Orange County Detention Center and faces 10 charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Rex is expected in court on Monday.
