COATS, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Coats police officer is under arrest, indicted by a grand jury for shooting a suspect during an altercation at a convenience store last November.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said it arrested 49-year-old Ricardo Sylvester Anderson, 50, on Wednesday at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. An SBI spokesperson said Anderson was returning from an out-of-state trip when he was picked up by the authorities.
A Harnett County grand jury indicted him on Monday on one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. on the night of Nov. 28 at a Speedway convenience store at 338 North McKinley St. in Coats when Anderson shot Michael Ricardo Talamentes while attempting to take him into custody.
Talamentes was hit in the leg and transported to WakeMed.
The SBI launched its investigation at the request of the Coats police chief. Anderson was processed at the Harnett County Detention Center, given a $25,000 bond, and is due for his first court appearance Thursday morning.
The investigation remains active, the SBI said, and no other details were released.
