CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- Researchers at UNC Health designed a first-of-its-kind bassinet aimed at better supporting connection between mothers and their newborn babies.
Eyewitness News spoke to the doctors behind the project, who say they hope the Couplet Care bassinet improves postpartum care.
"Traditional bassinets were designed for nurses to push them down to the nursery and feed the baby a bottle. This design has never been updated in the past 80 years. We are passionate about creating a device that actually supports the mom, baby, nurse, hospital, and the family, " said Stacie McEntyre, who is the chief executive officer of Couplet Care.
The bassinets are now being used at UNC Women's Hospital and are available for other hospitals to purchase.
