Accused grandma killer spotted on surveillance in Vanceboro

VANCEBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- A manhunt remains underway in Eastern North Carolina for a man accused of killing his grandmother and stabbing a deputy.

A sighting of Dominic Connelly, 24, was reported on a surveillance system Tuesday on N.C. 43 Highway in Vanceboro. Multiple local, state and federal agencies searched this area during the day and overnight for him by ground and air.

According to Craven County Sheriff's Office, based on items found during the search, it is believed the individual seen on the footage is Connelly.

Connelly has still not been found, authorities told ABC11 News. He was last seen wearing desert-sand-colored coveralls.

A few days ago, the sheriff's office released new photos of the 24-year-old spotted on a trail camera in the area of 1000 U.S. 17 Highway in Vanceboro. The search was also moved to Beaufort County on CC Road after another possible sighting.

The sheriff's office is now asking people in the area to check their surveillance systems and any trail images they have.

This all started last Saturday when authorities were called for a structure fire and death investigation on N.C. 101 Highway in Havelock. Inside the home, they found Patricia Lopedote, 72, dead. Connelly, her grandson, was identified by authorities as responsible following an investigation.

Connelly was then spotted a few days later at a Bojangles in Vanceboro, where he stabbed a deputy during an attempted arrest and ran.

If anyone sees Connelly, do not approach and immediately call 911.
