HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- An escaped inmate is back in custody in Harnett County.
Chopper 11 over the search area spotted the escapee on Monday as he ran across four lanes of US 421 into the woods with officers in pursuit.
Moments later, deputies led the shirtless man out of the woods in handcuffs.
It happened about a mile east of US 401, and from the sheriff's office.
The inmate, Angelo Rene Rivera, was being detained at the Harnett County Detention Center on numerous drug charges when he got away, the sheriff's office said.
The Lillington Police Department and North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted in the search.
Rivera was subsequently charged with misdemeanor escape.
An investigation is underway to determine how he escaped.
