Fayetteville State freshmen get cheers, a helping hand on move-in day

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Fayetteville State University began the fall semester with "Operation Smooth Move."

Hundreds of faculty staffers and fellow students got up bright and early Friday to give new Broncos and their parents a hand as they start their journey at FSU.

"Bronco pride is tradition; it is unity. It is history," said Dr. Nadia Hopkins. "My parents actually went to Fayetteville State University. I have several aunts and uncles that are actually here today moving in their students."

"We've just arrived, and so far, it's been great," said the mother of freshman Kendall Jackson. "We were welcomed all the way up at the street. We had help unloading our items from the car."

Jackson had some advice for incoming students.

"I say lists help a lot. Making sure you have all your clothes packed, everything you need for your dorm," she said. "You're just making sure you have everything in advance. Will really make move-in day go way more smoother."

Resident assistant Soleil Johnson also had some tips.

"Clothes, though, maybe not too many, because you're going to buy clothes here," she said.

Resident assistant Tory Jones got straight to the point.

"For freshmen, bring everything you've got - except for the house," he quipped.

To claps and cheers, the freshmen streamed in, ready to start a new chapter of life.

"All it takes is just one step, one big Bronco step," Hopkins said.
