WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- The former Chamber President of Wake Forest is facing multiple charges after a more than year-long investigation, police said.
According to police, former Wake Forest Chamber President Elizabeth Simpers, 49, was arrested and charged with four counts of embezzlement following a 13-month investigation.
Authorities said Simper allegedly spent $69,000 of the Chamber's money on personal items, such as plumbing, a party bus rental, shopping, and orthopedic services.
The Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce said it is fully cooperating with authorities during the investigation, and that the town "remains committed to transparency throughout the legal process."
Officials also said the Chamber has implemented financial controls and governance to restore trust and prevent future misconduct.
Simpers is being held at the Wake County Detention Center under a $100,000 unsecured bond.
