Fresh off new Hornets deal, Coby White gives back to local youth

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WTVD) -- One day after signing a three-year, $74 million contract with the Charlotte Hornets, Goldsboro native Coby White spent time giving back to local youth.

White joined 10 children in West Charlotte on Tuesday to design custom sneakers and share encouragement on and off the court.

The former UNC standout said he hopes to inspire young people across North Carolina.

"I think God placed me here for a reason," White said.

White and his family launched the Coby White Family Foundation after he became a professional basketball player. The organization focuses on supporting the mental well-being of Black and Brown youth in eastern North Carolina and beyond.

During Tuesday's event, the Charlotte Hornets Foundation presented White with a $20,000 donation to support the foundation's work.

"It means a lot to me," White said.
