Only half a month into the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, all eyes are on the Gulf as Tropical Storm Arthur has formed.
As of the 11:00 a.m. on June 17, an advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) revealed Tropical Arthur had formed. Sustained winds were around 40 mph. This very week storm is expected to bring heavy rain to parts of the south in the coming days.
Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings are in effect for much of the southeast Texas and Louisiana coastlines.
Arthur could landfall later today and will likely weaken into a Tropical Depression.
After bringing flooding rains to southeast Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur could be our next rain chance in Central North Carolina.
While it will no longer have tropical characteristics by the time it gets here Thursday night into Friday, scattered showers and storms could bring much needed rainfall to the region. Most areas will see 1" or less of rainfall.
Hurricane season began on June 1 and lasts through November 30.
