Only half a month into the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, all eyes are on the Gulf for possible tropical development in the coming days.

As of the 11:00 a.m. on June 16, an advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said we now have Potential Tropical Cyclone in south Texas.

Giving this disturbance the designation of Potential Tropical Cyclone, allows the NHC to issue advisories, watches, and warnings.

As PTC One emerges over the Gulf briefly Tuesday night, into early Wednesday, it could strengthen into a Tropical Storm by Wednesday afternoon.

After bringing flooding rains to southeast Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, the remnants of PTC One could be our next rain chance in Central North Carolina.

While it will no longer have tropical characteristics by the time it gets here on Friday, scattered showers and storms could bring much needed rainfall to the region.

Hurricane season began on June 1 and lasts through November 30.
