DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Les Gemmes, Incorporated is bringing its 28th Biennial Conclave to the Triangle this week, with a focus on sisterhood, service, and leadership.
The four-day event, held April 16-19 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, is hosted by the Tar River Chapter and led by the organization's 18th National President, Connie Davis. The Conclave is expected to draw members from more than 20 chapters across the country, along with supporters and local sponsors.
Organizers say the gathering builds on the momentum of the group's 2024 Conclave in Atlanta, offering a dynamic program centered on professional development and community engagement.
A key highlight this year is a service initiative supporting The Wright's Center, an organization that provides adult day health care and caregiver respite services. Members will donate toiletries, household essentials, and other resources aimed at supporting seniors' dignity, mental health, and overall well-being.
The effort aligns with Davis' "Dream Initiative: Support for Seniors," which emphasizes expanding care and resources for aging populations.
The Wright's Center, founded 37 years ago, serves older adults and individuals with physical or mental challenges in Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson counties. The center offers health monitoring, rehabilitation, and daily programming designed to help participants maintain independence and manage chronic conditions.
Although licensed to serve 51 participants, the center is currently assisting about 30 individuals due to financial limitations. Its services are provided at no cost, relying heavily on county funding, grants, and community donations. Officials say county support has declined significantly in recent years, increasing the need for outside assistance.
The organization is staffed by a team that includes an executive director, medical professionals, and support coordinators who work together to provide personalized care plans and engaging activities.
As part of the Conclave, Les Gemmes will recognize the center's leadership. The director of The Wright's Center received an award on Saturday, April 18, during a noon program.
Les Gemmes leaders say the Biennial Conclave underscores the organization's long-standing commitment to service and leadership, while continuing to make a tangible impact in communities nationwide.
