Fayetteville PD identifies man killed in Cliffdale Road shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Fayetteville Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting Sunday morning.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. along the 5000 block of Cliffdale Road.

Officers found a man who had been shot in the chest. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

On Monday, the victim was identified as Xavier Jaquan Griffin, 34, of Fayetteville.

Police also said Monday that the investigation showed an argument between "unrelated parties" led to a shooting that killed Griffin and wounded another man in the leg.

The identity of that man was being withheld because of safety considerations, police said. He was expected to recover after being taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The case remains under active investigation.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Detective D. Jackson at (910) 751-9363. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crime Stoppers by calling (910) 483-TIPS (8477). Crimestoppers information can also be submitted electronically.
