Man shot at Rocky Mount Social Security Office; police say no public threat

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man was found shot at the Social Security Administration Office in Rocky Mount on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a report of a shooting around 1:30 p.m. at the building at 1071 Hunter Hill Road. Officers arrived and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
As a caution, authorities closed both eastbound and westbound lanes near the scene and advised the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
There is no ongoing threat to the public, police said.
The Rocky Mount Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit and Forensic Unit are investigating.
No other details were immediately released.
