NCSBE disqualifies candidate from US Senate race over residency issue

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The State Board of Elections has disqualified Republican candidate Margot Dupre from the race for Thom Tillis' U.S. Senate seat.

The board ruled that Dupre is not a properly registered voter or qualified primary candidate in North Carolina.

The decision followed an investigation prompted by a complaint from Jerry Reinoehl, a Fayetteville Republican, who suggested Dupre might be living in Marion County, Florida. Records show she last voted in Florida during the April 20-25 primary election.

Election officials determined Dupre could not prove her primary residence is in North Carolina, a requirement to run for the state's U.S. Senate seat.

Dupre was one of seven Republicans vying to replace Senator Tillis.
