Officers make fiery car rescue on Grand Central Parkway

NEW YORK -- New video shows NYPD officers and New York State Police troopers making a heart-stopping rescue, after they said a driver ran off the road and crashed into a tree.

It happened just after 1 a.m. March 22 on the Grand Central Parkway.

Newly released video shows the flames and the people trapped inside because the car was on its side.

Police say the driver got out but three passengers were still inside the car as it was fully engulfed in flames.

Troopers used a fire extinguisher to help put out the fire, and officers with the NYPD who were in the area stopped to help.

The officers quickly broke the windows and pulled the people to safety.

All four people were taken to the hospital.

After officers investigated, they arrested and charged the driver, 20-year-old Mohammad Haque, on April 16.

He is facing a slew of charges, including assault, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.
