North Carolina man returns to Beaufort after sailing around the world in homemade boat

BEAUFORT, N.C. (WTVD) -- A North Carolina man is back home in Beaufort after completing a remarkable journey around the world in a boat he built himself.

Josh Kali set sail from Carteret County in January of last year, using a 19-foot boat he spent two and a half years constructing.

Kali became the first American to circumnavigate the globe in a boat under 20 feet, completing the trip in just over 223 days.

He says he hopes his experience will inspire others to pursue their goals.
