FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Fayetteville police officer was arrested on Wednesday following an investigation into an alleged sex crime.

According to the Interim Police Chief Christopher Joyce, Officer Jacob Jones responded to a service call at a business on May 13.

Joyce said that when Jones arrived, he reviewed surveillance video with an employee at the business and allegedly inappropriately touched the employee multiple times.

The department was then notified of the incident on June 10, and Jones was placed on administrative leave, Joyce said.

Following an administrative and criminal investigation, Joyce said Jones was charged with six counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.

"The Fayetteville Police Department holds its officers to the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty," Joyce said. "The badge we wear is a symbol of public trust, and we will not tolerate any employee who violates that trust."

Jones was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond.
