Person dies after getting shot near Rocky Mount convenience store

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting near a convenience store Saturday night in Rocky Mount.

Rocky Mount Police responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. and found a victim with a gunshot wound at Mike's Food Mart on West Raleigh Boulevard.

The person was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. On Sunday, police identified him as 47-year-old Julius Johnson.

Jermaine Lynch, 45, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

He received no bond and was being held at the Nash County Jail.

Lynch's charges will be upgraded to first-degree murder at his first appearance, Rocky Mount Police said.
