GASTONIA, N.C. (WTVD) -- President Donald Trump will visit Gastonia on Wednesday to deliver remarks in support of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley.

The visit comes as Whatley and Democrat Roy Cooper campaign for the U.S. Senate seat that Sen. Thom Tillis is vacating. The midterm election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.

Trump will travel to Gastonia Municipal Airport on Gaston Day School Road and is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m., officials said.

In a Facebook post, Whatley shared his enthusiasm for President Trump's visit to his hometown of Gastonia.

Whatley has a close relationship with Trump, who endorsed him in the Senate race. Trump visited Gastonia Municipal Airport in 2024 while campaigning for reelection. He won North Carolina by 3 percentage points in the 2024 election.

U.S. Rep. Tim Moore, who represents North Carolina's 14th Congressional District, also posted about the visit on Facebook.

People interested in attending Trump's visit can register through the campaign's online registration platform.
