Prison fire in Orange County

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A prison fire early Saturday morning in Orange County forced roughly 200 inmates out of the building.

The fire broke out in the kitchen of the Orange Correctional Center in Hillsborough, a minimum security center off Clarence Walters Road.

No one was injured, but the fire did cause extensive damage to the building, according to the NC Department of Public Safety.

The Division of Prisons relocated the inmates to other prison facilities across the state, including Johnston Correctional Institution in Smithfield. Inmates will remain relocated until the kitchen can be repaired or rebuilt.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
