Residents say they're opposed to a development on this land

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Dozens of residents turned out for a meeting Wednesday at Raleigh City Hall to voice opposition to a plan to develop land off U.S. Highway 401 in northeast Raleigh.

The Wake County school district is considering selling the property once to be used for a new high school to a developer who could put up 300 new homes.

Residents say the proposed development would cause traffic problems, possible flooding issues, and declining property values.

Another resident voiced concerns about a historic burial ground on the property.

A representative for the developer said the homes would all be a comparable size to existing homes - and subdivisions would have open spaces set aside.

The Raleigh Planning Commission should have a recommendation by February.
