WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- October is both National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month and National Pit Bull Appreciation Month, and the Wake County Animal Center is celebrating by making it easier to bring home a new furry friend.
The center is offering $25 adoptions for dogs who have been there more than two weeks, and $5 adoptions for cats.
"This is Marcy. She is one of our longest timers. She's been with us for over a hundred days, which is rough. I mean, we love on them. We care for them. We give them enrichment. But what she really needs is a couch and a nice, loving, supportive home," said Mary Taylor, volunteer coordinator at the Wake County Animal Center.

All adoptable pets come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. The center hopes the promotion will help long-time residents like Marcy find their forever families.
The Wake County Animal Center currently has more than 100 dogs and about 30 cats, plus more than 80 adoptable pets in foster care.
The center in Raleigh is open daily from noon to 6 p.m., except on holidays.
