Storms cause flooding, tree damage across central NC
CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- From rumbles of thunder to big bolts of lightning, several parts of central North Carolina endured a rain-soaked night after downpours throughout the day.
A large tree fell on a home in Cary during fast-moving storms on Monday afternoon.
It happened in the 200 block of Shotte Court. The damage left part of the roof exposed.
"The master bedroom was demolished," the homeowner, Ezzy, who rents out the property, told ABC11.
He added that the home had extensive damage and that the family will be displaced.
At least one person was inside the home when the tree fell, but no injuries were reported.
"All the insulation's down, a hole bigger than my truck, so he can't stay there," Ezzy said. "Luckily, the office is on the back side so that didn't get damaged."
Heavy rain also caused pockets of flooding in Wake County.
One car became stranded on West Martin Street in Raleigh.
About 11,000 people were without power across the state.
The storm also caused two different ground stops at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Nearly 200 flights were delayed and canceled on Monday, affecting thousands of travelers.
Passengers faced delays of 45 minutes up to three hours.
More unsettled weather is expected through mid-week.
