United flight strikes light pole while landing at New Jersey's Newark Airport

NEWARK, New Jersey -- An investigation is underway after a plane landing at New Jersey's Newark Airport made contact with a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike on Sunday around 2 p.m. local time.

United said in a statement that Flight 169 landed safely, taxied to the gate normally and no passengers or crew were injured.

United says their maintenance team is evaluating damage to the aircraft.

The FAA is also investigating.

The flight was from Venice, Italy to Newark. There were 221 passengers and 10 crewmembers on board the plane, according to the airline.
