RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Wake County Public School System has named Rolesville Middle School Principal Dhedra Lassiter the 2014 Wake County Principal of the Year.
The award was presented to Lassiter during a ceremony at Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh on Wednesday evening.
Lassiter began working in Wake County in 1993.
She said she believes effective instructional leadership is based on knowledge of curriculum, teaching and the developmental psychology of children.
"We are planning to clarify for everyone the purpose and practices of high functioning professional learning teams," Lassiter said. "Our groups are working toward common goals. We need to engage in activities that assure we have a shared lens on learning with expectations for academic excellence for students."
Lassiter received a $1,000 check, a Carolina Panthers Game Package. She also received office supplies and her school will receive a $1,000 award.
Lacey Peckham of Middle Creek High School was named the 2014 Assistant Principal of the Year at the same ceremony.
