FEMA says it will continue working with state as it recovers following Helene.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- FEMA has approved an additional $197 million to help North Carolina communities recover from Hurricane Helene and other past disasters.
The funding will support more than 30 recovery and mitigation projects across the state, including debris removal, infrastructure repairs and efforts to reduce future storm damage.
The largest award, $162.1 million, will go to North Carolina Emergency Management for debris removal and management costs. Another $7.2 million was approved for the N.C. Department of Transportation to repair roads and bridges.
FEMA also approved more than $18.3 million for mitigation projects, including funding to acquire properties in Smithfield and Raleigh and help make communities more resilient to future disasters.
The agency said it will continue working with state and local partners as North Carolina recovers and rebuilds following Hurricane Helene.
