One dead after train collides with SUV in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A person is dead after a train hit an SUV at the intersection of Talton Avenue and North Center Street in Mount Olive Wednesday afternoon.



An eyewitness told ABC11 the Jeep Liberty was stuck on the tracks when it was hit by a CSX freight train just after 3 p.m.



The witness said the driver was standing between the train and the car. The train couldn't stop in time and the train hit the car and the car swung around and hit the man pinning him up against the train.



He was dragged 60 yards down the tracks between the train and car.



No one else was hurt.



Officials at the scene said they are investigating the incident as a possible suicide.



CSX said the train had two locomotives and 85 rail cars carrying grain and corn. It was traveling from Rocky Mount to Warsaw, N.C.
