CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill said Wednesday it is getting a $100 million commitment to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy from Fred Eshelman.
It's the largest contribution from an individual in the school's history.
Gov. Pat McCrory was on campus for the announcement.
"This historic financial commitment will spur innovation, research and create new jobs. It will position the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as one of the premier destinations for higher education," said Gov. McCrory in a statement. "Future graduates will be living testaments to Dr. Eshelman's legacy of generosity and accomplishment for many years to come."
Eshelman graduated from the school in 1972 and is the founder and former CEO of Pharmaceutical Product Development and founding chairman of Furiex Pharmaceuticals.
The UNC School of Pharmacy was named for Eshelman in 2008.
