RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Any showers out there this evening will clear out after the sun goes down with skies becomiing partly cloudy and lows in the 70s.
By tomorrow, we will see a trend toward drier weather as high pressure builds in. Still, there is a slight chance for a pop-up shower or thunderstorm tomorrow with weak surface convergence around.
From Wednesday onward through the 4th of July weekend, our attention turns toward an intense heat wave that is set to build in across the entire region. The 12z suite of models continues to show an amplified ridge building and expanding over the Midwest and East Coast. The worst of the heat is expected from Thursday through Saturday, when 500 mb heights are expected to reach 594-596 dm.
High temperatures during this period will be around 100 or slightly above and feels like temps could be 105-110. If there is one silver lining to this heat, it is that dew points don't appear to be very high (mid 60s to low 70s), especially in the afternoons during peak heating. Still, this heat wave will be dangerous and those who will be outdoors need to take the necessary precautions to mitigate the risks associated with heat.
Have a nice evening!
