11-year-old girl killed in rollover wreck on I-40

GREENSBORO -- An 11-year-old girl was thrown out of a van and died after a crash involving a tractor trailer in Greensboro Sunday morning.

It happened on I-40 East near Sandy Ridge Road around 4:40 a.m., WGHP reports.

Greensboro police said the crash involved a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan and a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

Both vehicles were headed east. The Dodge ran off the roadway to the right and rolled over numerous times from the crash, according to police.

Officers are investigating but said they do not believe impairment contributed to the crash.

No word yet on the victim's or drivers' identity.
