Three North Carolina cities ranked poorest in America

LUMBERTON, N.C.

The annual American Community Survey based on 2012 Census Bureau statistics, outlines the areas with the highest and lowest incomes.

A list of the top 10 poorest cities published on Yahoo! Homes' website, also factored in 2011 population estimates in the rankings.

Lumberton, North Carolina was named the poorest city with a median household income at $28,293, among a population of 135,517.

Roanoke Rapids came in at number 3 with about a $29,930 annual income for 76,066 people, while Forest City, North Carolina ranked number 9 with $32,836 among 67,538 residents.
