I-TEAM Troubleshooter: Voting problems reported in Triangle
Some voters ran into problems Tuesday at the polls.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Some voters say they ran into problems Tuesday at the polls.

I heard about the long lines and I also heard about some confusion at polls as several voters told me they showed up where they have voted for years, only to be told they're not in the right place.

This confusion could happen because voting locations have changed and you don't get notified. You have to look it up online to verify where you vote.

However, there were problems looking it up online too, especially in Johnston County. I heard from several voters about this error. When they typed in their address, the polling place address was Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Clayton, but the picture below that address was a different polling location. So when they showed up at the church, they say they were told they were at the wrong poll, and sent to the other.

The voters claim when they went to the other location, they were told it's back where they just came from. Eventually it was worked out, but was a frustrating process for voters.

Another big concern, and one that sparked a complaint with the state Board of Elections, was a handout being given to voters in several Wake County polling locations. The complaint was filed Tuesday by the North Carolina Association of Educators.

The group said the campaign committee for state Representative Tom Murry handed out the fliers implying that the NCAE endorsed Murry along with two other state representatives, which the NCAE did not endorse.

The apple-shaped cards were similar to the handouts the NCAE handed out for years.

Murry did acknowledge the complaint and provided this link from which the information for the handout was derived. Murray added he will respond in depth Wednesday and requested that the complaint be summarily dismissed.

I also heard from voters upset with being handed sample ballots while they were walking into the polls. The sample ballots are not illegal. Volunteers from either party are allowed to handout the suggested ballots at the election sites, as long as they are staying the required distance from the polls.

If you're having any issues casting your ballots, share them with me by emailing iteam@abc11.com.
