Strong storms rock the Triangle
Hot on the heels of Monday's ice storm, a powerful line of thunderstorms moved through central North Carolina this morning bringing heavy rain and knocking out power to thousands
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several counties in the ABC11 viewing area as storms brought wind gusts up to 56 mph.

Many schools and childcare facilities are operating on a delay this morning due to lingering weather conditions.

ABC11 Meteorologist Don "Big Weather" Schwenneker says temperatures today are going to end up rising about 25-30 degrees higher than anytime yesterday.
Thousands of power outages began popping up around the ABC11 viewing area around 5 a.m., with over 8,000 Duke Energy customers left in the dark due to the weather.

"The wet weather will be followed by dry weather and breaks of sunshine late this morning, and this afternoon, as the front sweeps off the to the east," he said. "Winds from the southwest to west will also gust to near 40 mph for a time this morning as that front moves through."
A quick-moving upper-level disturbance will bring Central North Carolina more clouds and a couple of pockets of rain tonight, after 10 p.m.
Behind this system Wednesday, Schwenneker says some sunshine will quickly return with temperatures rising into the middle 50s during the afternoon.
High pressure will build in and promote sunny skies and seasonable temperatures with highs in the lower to middle 50s and nighttime lows near 30.
