WAKE COUNTY, NC (WTVD) -- A man is charged after allegedly hitting a Wake County deputy in a head-on crash in the area of Poole Road and Grasshopper Road in eastern Wake County Friday morning.

It happened around 6 a.m.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Deputy Joseph Coley was searching for another crash in the area when a Kia minivan driven by 56-year-old Carlos Alberto Moya of Raleigh crossed the centerline and hit his cruiser.

It happened around 6 a.m.

Deputy Coley was taken to WakeMed to be treated for minor injuries and was later released. Moya was listed in stable condition.

Troopers said there were signs Moya was impaired at the scene and his blood was taken for analysis. He's charged with DWI, travelling left of the centerline, no seatbelt, and a license restriction violation. He has two prior DWIs.
