Amtrak train strikes, kills person on tracks in Wilson

WILSON (WTVD) -- An Amtrak train struck and killed a person on the railroad tracks in Wilson on Friday night.

It happened approximately 8:08 p.m. when Train 91, the Silver Star. struck the person while traveling from New York to Miami.

The crew and the 144 passengers on board escaped injury.

The train was being held for an investigation by local authorities and was expected to be released soon with a relief crew and continue its journey to Miami.

The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
