A Robeson County first grade teacher accused of trying one of her students to a desk has resigned.

A school board spokesman confirmed to Eyewitness News that Hillary Reed resigned after a meeting with school officials to discuss the incident.

Reedy, a teacher at Piney Grove Elementary School, is accused of using twine to tie a 6-year-old girl's legs to a desk as punishment for not sitting still.

The incident happened in March but the child's mother says she didn't know about the incident until this week when her daughter told her.

Efforts to contact Reedy have not been successful. A school spokesman says it will be up to the child's mother to file any criminal charges.

School board officials say Reedy was a first-year teachers, who was recruited from out of state.
