A soldier who shot at his own unit at Fort Bragg pleaded guilty to the charges against him Wednesday. On October 27, 1995, Sgt. William J. Kreutzer Jr. began shooting at members of the 82nd Airborne Division's 2nd Brigade during their morning exercise.

Major Stephen Badger was killed and 18 others were wounded.

In a pre-trial hearing Wednesday, Kreutzer pleaded guilty to premeditated murder, attempted premeditated murder and aggravated assault.

The plea deal means military prosecutors won't seek the death penalty.

Kreutzer was sentenced to death in a 1996 court-martial, but a military appeals court overturned the conviction.
